Howard F. Terhune, was born May 22, 1915 in Ridgefield Park New Jersey. 

According to the 1930 census the family was living at 149 Summit avenue in Hackensack so he would have been in Hackensack High school around 1932-1934.  The family moved to 85 Central Avenue some time before 1940 according to his daughter Julia. 

          Howard Frederick Terhune enlisted into the Army on 8/11/1941 and became a Warrant Officer (Junior Grade)
(Made Tech SGT, was discharged, re-entered and became a
WO-which stands for Warrant officer in the Army with the
46th Tank Battalion 13th Armored Division Nicknamed "The Black Cats”. Howard Frederick Terhune served in Central Europe and the Rhineland and received these medals for his service:

~World War II Victory Medal
~American Theater Service Medal
~European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal

Howard Frederick Terhune’s daughter Julia, gave us this bit of information on her father’s service on 2/2/2018:

 “His military career was a little unusual in that he enlisted in 1941, became a
Tech Sergeant in late 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1943 so he could be appointed as a Warrant Officer (junior grade). Maybe you know why he had to be discharged to take on that appointment. I don't. He then went to Europe in that capacity from June 1943 to February 1946 serving with the 46th Tank Battalion,
13th Armored Division. He received a commendation ribbon in May 1946.

Howard Frederick Terhune was released from service on February 13, 1946 and passed away on May 9, 2015 only 2 weeks away from turning 100 years old, his obituary read:

Son of the late William Peter Terhune and Julia (Coyman) Terhune. Husband of the
late Sylvia for 61 years.
Survived by his children Julia Galperti and her husband Nico of Colico, Italy,
Sara Richards and her husband Barry of Essex, Massachusetts, William Peter Terhune II and his wife Jenny of Pismo Beach, California.
Also survived by his grandsons Sebastian Galperti with Isadora, Gianluca Galperti with Virginia, Federico Galperti and Ian Richards with Tess, and 1 great-granddaughter.
He is further survived by his brother Donald Terhune of Union City, New Jersey and
his sister, Shirley Yagnesak of Elma, New York. 

After being cremated, his ashes are in Italy.
